Key Responsibilities:
Arrange and visit people at their home, which will often be a care home, to determine and verify information for financial assessments and to maximise their income.
Support people to complete applications for other available DWP benefits where required.
Provide advice on charging arrangements for non-residential and residential care to internal and external customers.
Administer financial assessments and Deferred Payment arrangements in accordance with current legislation and the Council's charging policy.
Make arrangements to secure payment of fees.
Initiate contact with customers who have debts, meeting with them to review debt recovery options in line with policies and procedures.
Investigate and resolve escalated and complex issues from internal and external customers.
Ensure full and high quality records are made for each visit.
Maintain system records to accurately reflect assessment details and/or actions agreed.
Provide guidance and advice to other services, both internal and external to the Council, in relation to benefits and awards.
Liaise with external agencies such as the Department of Works and Pension to maximise income collection.
To report any safeguarding concerns observed during visits to the Council Social Work Sections.
Comply with the Council's lone working policy.
Maintain a high level of legislative and service knowledge to provide accurate guidance.
