Your new roleAs Senior Indirect Tax Manager, you will take ownership of a portfolio of valued clients, building long‑standing relationships and delivering proactive, commercially focused VAT advice. You will provide expert guidance across complex indirect tax matters, support clients through HMRC processes, and contribute to the team's growth through mentoring and business development.
Key responsibilities include:
* Building strong, trusted client relationships and delivering high‑quality VAT advisory services.
* Leading comprehensive VAT reviews and advising on:
o Partial exemption and non‑business apportionment methods
o VAT return reviews and liability analysis
o Property transactions and capital projects
* Supporting clients during HMRC interactions including error corrections, PESM applications, and inspections.
* Identifying advisory opportunities and contributing to tenders, proposals, and presentations.
* Working collaboratively with tax, audit, and corporate finance colleagues to deliver joined-up solutions.
* Influencing and embedding best practice across VAT compliance and advisory processes.
* Conducting technical research, staying abreast of legislative change, and preparing technical reports and updates.
* Mentoring and supporting junior members of the VAT team.
What you'll need to succeed
* Strong technical VAT experience gained in professional services, consultancy, or in‑house advisory roles.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of simplifying complex legislation.
* A proven ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
* Commercial awareness and a proactive, client‑focused approach.
* CTA/ATT qualification, HMRC experience, or equivalent (advantageous).
* Experience dealing with HMRC on technical matters including partial exemption method applications.
* Exposure to VAT within specialist sectors such as property, construction, travel, not‑for‑profit, education, or healthcare.
* A collaborative mindset, professionalism, resilience, and a strong sense of accountability.
