Job Description
Senior Buyer – Indirect Category (Hybrid – 3 days per week on site, Norwich or York)
The Senior Buyer for the Indirect category will have accountability for a defined portfolio of spend and suppliers, including at least 8 production sites across the UK, with the potential to take on additional sites as the company expands. You will work closely with relevant stakeholders to deliver portfolio objectives such as rationalisation through synergies, cost reduction and ensuring a competitive advantage.
Key Accountabilities
* Facilitate projects so that objectives are achieved and a competitive advantage is delivered.
* Negotiate commercial terms and contractual arrangements to improve the business and mitigate supply‑chain risks.
* Effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders to maintain alignment.
* Analyse market forces and trends that influence the organisation and its suppliers.
* Use market data to estimate and negotiate prices for purchased categories.
* Consider external risks within supply chains and propose mitigation solutions.
* Support the Procurement Manager in evaluating category expenditure and creating category plans, using historical and forecasted data and portfolio tools.
* Use Supplier Relationship Management to align supplier and business objectives.
* Ensure cost objectives are achieved within the remit set by the Category Manager.
* Work with internal stakeholders to onboard new suppliers, addressing differing requirements across the business.
* Engage stakeholders in the sourcing process to overcome conflicts or challenges.
* Identify and deliver added value through supply‑chain categories.
* Manage supplier relationships to deliver improvements in supplier service.
* Facilitate change within the supply‑chain category, ensuring stakeholder engagement.
* Monitor monthly KPI’s for purchased categories, taking appropriate actions to meet agreed standards and financial budgets.
* Encourage innovation in the supply chain and report on developments.
Qualifications
* Significant experience in sourcing packaging and at least 5 years in a procurement function.
* Graduate qualification preferred.
* In‑depth experience in strategic sourcing for film, corrugate, paper, and other packaging sub‑categories.
* Knowledge of world‑class category management and sourcing practices.
* Experience managing sourcing categories across multiple geographies.
* Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
* Strong results orientation with a proven track record of outstanding performance.
* Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
* Proactive and action‑oriented, able to dive into operational details to deliver business needs.
* Structured yet flexible.
