Full-time Description Working at The Preservation Society of Newport County offers you the opportunity to work for an organization that preserves, protects, and presents 13 historic properties and landscapes in Newport, Rhode Island. As part of the team, you have an opportunity to help preserve and maintain a cultural, historical and the social treasures of Newport, Rhode Island. The Gardens & Landscapes Crew Leader is responsible for maintaining all grounds, including lawns and all equipment of the PSNC properties. The position supervises a lawn crew of 5-10 people, depending on seasons, in order to see that all the properties are in first class condition. Spreading salt on cutting lawns, using hand mower or power mower. Trimming and edging around walks, flower beds, and walls; using clippers, weed cutters and edging tools. Pruning shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs, using shears, pruners or chain saw. Raking and bagging leaves, using rake. Cleaning grounds and removing litter, using spiked stick or broom. Planting grass, flowers, trees and shrubs, using gardening tools. Watering lawn and shrubs, using hose or by activating fixed or portable sprinkler system. Clean out drainage ditches and culverts, using shovel and rake.· Perform ground maintenance duties, using tractor equipped with attachments, such as mowers, spreaders, lawn roller, and snow removal equipment. Sharpen tools, such as weed cutters, edging tools and shears using file or knife sharpener. Make minor repairs on equipment (as instructed), such as lawn mower, spreader, and snow removal equipment, using hand tools and power tools. Shoveling snow from walks and driveways. public passageways to prevent ice buildup. Assigns and supervises daily work schedules to groundskeepers on his/her crew. Works closely with the Garden Foreman on a daily basis to ensure proper functioning of the Gardens and Landscapes Department. Advises the Garden Foreman on the performance of the Grounds Staff and to make recommendations concerning any needed changes. Follow prescribed safety and health rules, regulations, and practices. Perform other related duties as required or directed. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIREMENTS) High School Degree or equivalent with minimum 3 years of documented grounds keeping or landscaping experience preferred. Must possess a valid Driver’s License with clean driving record. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Ability to consistently arrive at work on time and ready to begin duties. Ability to stand for extended periods, usually 40-45 minutes per hour. Ability to walk quickly for extended distances under emergency circumstances. Requires use of various hand tools and adjuncts such as wheelbarrows. Must be able to work in all weather conditions. Must be able to use power tools. Ability to drive vehicle between work locations. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs Salary Description $22.00 per hour
