Assistant Headteacher (Job Share)

Pay/Grade: Leadership Scale 6–14
Working Pattern: Part-time, Monday–Wednesday
Responsible To: Head of School
Responsible For: Curriculum, assessment, CPD, AET training coordination, outreach strategy
Partnership: Works as a job share with the Assistant Headteacher (In-Class Pedagogy & Practice) as joint leaders of Teaching & Learning


Purpose of Role

* Provide strategic leadership for curriculum, assessment, CPD, and research-informed practice.

* Act as the Lead Trainer Coordinator for Hampshire Autism Education Trust (AET), supporting and quality-assuring trainers.

* Lead the school’s Outreach programme, ensuring high-quality practice and compliance.

* Work in partnership with the AHT (Pedagogy & Practice) to co-lead the Teaching & Learning strategy.

* Teach as required and contribute to wider Assistant Headteacher responsibilities including safeguarding, operational support, behaviour leadership, and staff line management.


Key Responsibilities

* Lead on curriculum intent, design, review, and evaluation.

* Oversee the assessment framework, including moderation, analysis, and reporting.

* Coordinate the annual CPD programme (INSET, twilight training, coaching).

* Analyse data and produce reports on trends and strategic options.

* Horizon-scan research and embed evidence-informed practice.

* Act as Lead Trainer Coordinator for Hampshire AET.

* Lead and quality-assure the school’s Outreach strategy.

* Prepare reports for SLT, governors, and external partners.

* Teach as required and model outstanding practice.

* Fulfil the wider responsibilities of an Assistant Headteacher including safeguarding, appraisal, behaviour leadership, and school improvement work.


Safeguarding & Compliance

* Model outstanding safeguarding practice and operate within DSL protocols.

* Adhere to all relevant policies including Equality & Diversity, GDPR, Health & Safety, Capability, and others.

* Ensure AET and Outreach meet commissioning and quality assurance standards.


Person Specification

Essential:

* QTS and strong SEND expertise.

* Proven leadership experience in curriculum, assessment, or CPD.

* Experience coordinating professional development or training.

* Excellent communication and partnership-building skills.

* Strong commitment to safeguarding and compliance.

Desirable (non-essential):

* AET trainer accreditation.

* NPQ or postgraduate study.

* Experience managing commissioned services.
