Role Description
The Quantity Surveyor – Electrical Specialist will take responsibility for managing the commercial and contractual aspects of electrical packages, from pre‑contract estimating through to final account. This role supports medium to large M&E and electrical projects across Scotland and the UK, offering exposure to a diverse range of building and construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Pre‑contract estimating for electrical works including take‑offs, pricing and tender submissions
* Cost planning and budgeting for electrical packages, contributing to overall project cost plans
* Contract administration under JCT, NEC or client‑specific forms
* Preparation of valuations, variations and payment applications
* Commercial management of subcontractors including procurement, negotiation and performance monitoring
* Change control, including pricing and negotiating variations and claims
* Interim valuations and cashflow forecasting
* Final account preparation and agreement with clients and subcontractors
* Identification and mitigation of commercial risks
* Collaboration with project managers, engineers and clients to resolve commercial issues
* Production of regular commercial reports, forecasts and KPI updates
Experience, Skills and Qualifications
* Degree, HND or equivalent in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or related discipline
* Minimum 3+ years' experience working as a Quantity Surveyor on electrical or M&E contracts
* Strong estimating knowledge of electrical installations including LV distribution, switchgear, lighting, containment and small power
* Experience working with JCT, NEC or similar contract forms
* Competent in measurement and costing methods (NRM/SMM)
* Proficient in MS Excel and relevant commercial/estimating software
* Strong negotiation, communication and analytical skills
* Organised, proactive and capable of managing multiple projects
* Desirable: MRICS or working towards chartership, public‑sector procurement experience, electrical supply chain knowledge, full UK driving licence
Salary and Location
Salary up to £58,000 per annum depending on experience. Office and site‑based role with a collaborative team culture. Based in East End of Glasgow with travel across Scotland and the UK as required. Reporting to the Commercial Manager / Managing Director.
