The role
As part of the HMF Portfolio, we are thrilled to announce an opportunity for an Engineering Director to join our Project Engineering team, where they will play a crucial role in advancing our projects and ensuring the successful delivery of a network designed for Net Zero.
This role will report to Managing Director & Chief Technical Engineer.
Responsibilities
· Ensure that suitable engineering resources are assigned for the execution of large capital projects. Identify and manage engineering and quality risks, implement effective mitigation strategies to safeguard project quality and schedule.
· Ensure that the technical requirements of the project are communicated clearly and effectively to the project teams. Responsible for the early identification of technology components that require Technical Authority (TA) approval, and for preparing the plan for TA approval in collaboration with the technical team.
· Ensure scheduling Design Reviews and that the design complies with Engineering Works Information and providing competent technical leadership for the project.
· Ensure Project Coordination responsibilities, which include leading meetings with Contractors and other project stakeholders (remote design office), and organizing additional technical sessions such as HAZID/HAZOP/HAZCON and Design Authority Reviews.
· Promote manage safety within the project portfolio, including Safety in Design, the implementation of CDM procedures, and Principal Designer (PD) practices, in collaboration with Project Managers/Lead Engineers, as well as reviewing construction methods (RAMS) and safety requirements for commissioning and operations.
· Oversee engineering managers and project engineers directly and be accountable for coordinating all engineering day to day operations.
· Develop and sustain strong relationships with external stakeholders to positively impact the delivery of our project portfolio and broader Transmission and HMF business objectives, including regulatory authorities and industry partners.
· Built strong relationships and understanding of consultants and external industry experts and the ability to communicate and challenge complex technical issues and recommendations in a clear and concise manner to facilitate decision making by senior management.
Qualifications
· A degree in a relevant engineering field (preferably Electrical Engineering) or equivalent experience, with over 20 years of demonstrated success in delivering FACTS projects (up to 400kV) and a comprehensive technical understanding of transmission and distribution systems.
· Strong technical knowledge of the Transmission network, with technical understanding of all elements, and high-level technical understanding of facilitating functions and an understanding of legal and regulatory obligations for Transmission.
· Extensive technical knowledge of applicable legislation and its implications for the management of the Transmission network concerning both Assets and Projects, including CDM and ESQCR.
· A proven track record in managing complex, multi-billion-pound engineering programmes including stakeholder engagement at senior and regulatory levels.
· Advanced knowledge and understanding of project engineering management systems and technical governance arrangements for development and execution of large capital projects.
· Outstanding leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities, with the capacity to steer strategic technical direction and achieve organizational excellence.
