Engineering Project Manager
Our prestigious manufacturing client within the Marine and Luxury Yacht industry is currently seeking an Engineering Project Manager to join their highly reputable team based in Ipswich. This is a full-time, permanent position. The role involves travel to other locations, so a full driving licence is required.
The Project Manager will own the overall plan for the on-time delivery of new build Yachts, ensuring delivery to the client within the agreed cost, specification, variations, additions, options, and quality standards. You will coordinate activities of the cross-functional team responsible for delivering the new Yacht to the customer.
The Project Manager will represent the business in all dealings with the client, from sale to handover.
Knowledge and Skills required:
* Strong knowledge of the systems and equipment typical of large, modern cruising yachts.
* Strong knowledge of the marine industry, yacht production techniques, and processes.
* IT literate, competent user of Microsoft Office products and project management IT tools.
* Strong stakeholder management skills – customer, senior management, suppliers, employees, and contractors.
Experience:
* Managing complex work schedules in a matrix management structure to meet cost, quality, and delivery targets.
* Sailing large, modern cruising yachts or charter experience is advantageous.
Qualifications:
* Degree level education.
* Project management qualification e.g., PRINCE2 or APMP (Desirable).
* Yacht Master Offshore or Ocean (or equivalent) is an advantage.
Key Responsibilities:
Contract Execution (Boat Build)
* Manage the build plan for your yacht(s), including expediting activities to ensure on-time delivery.
* Maintain and update a Master Work List for each yacht, detailing variations and options.
* Report progress and monitor actual versus planned progress, providing weekly updates and mitigation plans for delays.
* Work with build teams and production management to achieve cost and schedule targets.
* Coordinate with the commercial department to ensure margins are maintained.
* Promote HSE practices within the business.
Contract Execution (Customer Liaison)
* Keep the client informed of build progress, payment schedules, and projected completion dates.
* Coordinate interior design activities with production schedules.
Contract Closeout
* Ensure all payments and paperwork are completed before handover.
* Oversee yacht commissioning and sea trials, resolving issues prior to handover.
* Check yacht quality and specifications, minimizing warranty faults/defects.
* Assist clients with paperwork, registration, licensing, and compliance requirements.
