NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical roles. Post Details

* This is a permanent position.
* Working days over 7 days, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, as part of the laboratory out-of-hours system (contractual requirement).
* Hours: 37 per week.


Role Responsibilities

Clinical Support Workers are responsible for collecting and preparing materials and clinical specimens for analysis, including safe disposal of clinical waste. They register patient information onto the Laboratory Information System or other manual systems, work within Specimen Reception, handle telephone queries from staff and external agencies, assist Biomedical Scientists, and perform specific laboratory tests as required.


Qualifications

Applicants should have 3 Highers at Grade C or above (including Chemistry or Biology and Maths), or SVQ3 in a relevant science subject, or completed a modern apprenticeship in life sciences, or equivalent education. Mandatory induction standards for healthcare support workers in Scotland must be achieved, and candidates must adhere to the code of conduct throughout employment.


Laboratory Details

The Diagnostic Clinical Microbiology Service for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde operates from Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. The microbiology laboratories provide comprehensive services to hospital staff, primary care, and general practice, processing approximately 400,000 specimens annually. The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility accredited to UKAS ISO 15189 standards, equipped with advanced microbiology equipment.
