Overview
This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra-low voltage electrical systems and equipment to join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. Expertise relating to control systems design and SCADA / telemetry systems would be beneficial. You will influence and shape how we deliver our service, providing technical engineering leadership and support to meet our objectives of safe, reliable and sustainable assets and our commitments to net zero carbon.
You will be part of a team that manages, develops and maintains our electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules for our electrical systems and equipment, covering HV and LV power systems and control systems within assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures and monitoring sites. You will help develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees managing or carrying out work on our electrical systems and equipment. The role may include a national incident response duty which may occur during or outside normal working hours.

Responsibilities
* Provide technical leadership and support within the Standards, Asset Management and Engineering Directorate to deliver safe, reliable and sustainable assets.
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules for HV and LV power systems and control systems across assets such as pumping stations, water management facilities, flood defence structures and monitoring sites.
* Develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for staff involved with electrical systems and equipment.
* Contribute to the national incident response capability as required, including possible out-of-hours duties.
* Collaborate with MEICA Engineering Standards team to provide technical standards, management and leadership across mechanical, electrical and control system activities.
Qualifications and experience
* Good working knowledge of the Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* Good working knowledge of control systems, including IEC 61508, IEC 62061, BS EN 13489, and telemetry/SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience in developing and delivering Safe systems of work, risk assessments, and method statements.
* Experience with testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
* Strong understanding of risk-based approaches to electrical maintenance, including FMEA, reliability systems and processes.
* Experience drafting and publishing electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, teamwork and communication skills.
* UK Driving licence; current membership of a recognised engineering institution and registration as a Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council, or clear evidence of working toward registration with a realistic prospect of registration within 12 months.

This is a hybrid role with a base location near your home. We use smart tools to stay connected and some travel and overnights may be required.
