Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Highly Specialist Optometrist to join the busy Eye team at Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospitals together with community clinics. The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner to assess, diagnose and manage patients referred to the Optometry department. The role includes refraction for adult and paediatric patients and optometry-led glaucoma diagnostic clinics, currently run daily at two community sites. Paediatric refractions run in joint ophthalmology paediatric clinics and paediatric joint orthoptic/optometry clinics. Ad hoc coverage may be required in medical contact lens assessment and fitting and low-vision aid assessment.
Responsibilities
* Conduct comprehensive optometric assessments, diagnoses and management of referred patients.
* Undertake refraction for both adults and paediatric patients.
* Lead optometry-led glaucoma diagnostic clinics (current daily sessions at two community sites).
* Collaborate in paediatric refractive clinics within joint ophthalmology paediatric and paediatric orthoptic/optometry services.
* Provide ad hoc cover for medical contact lens assessment and fitting and low-vision aid assessment as required.
* Work as part of the multi-professional team across subspecialised clinics (glaucoma, cataract, medical retina, IVT injections, paediatric ophthalmology) and contribute to extended role optometry work.
* Be willing to work across sites and participate in training of ophthalmologists, optometrists, school nurses and medical students from Imperial University.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Experience as a Highly Specialist Optometrist with ability to work autonomously. Training will be provided as required for extended role activities.
* Previous experience in extended role optometry is preferred.
* Willingness to work across sites and integrate into a multi-professional team.
