Location
The majority of the work will be based around South Cumbria, North Lancashire and East Yorkshire.
Introduction
Footprint Forestry was established in 2019 by Edward Mills and Christopher Guest in the Southern Lake District. We have a wide range of clients from small woodland owners and both small and large estates. Work includes commercial conifer forestry as well as the management of woods with high ecological and recreational value, and also a good deal of environmentally sensitive work in ancient woodland.

Essential Skills, Knowledge & Experience Required
* Diligent and professional in your approach to work and motivated to deliver a high-quality service to clients
* Work well as part of an experienced team, but also be confident in working on your own
* Effective communication skills to liaise with colleagues, clients, contractors and stakeholders
* Proficiency with IT systems and experience with Office 365 suite and GIS.
* Good knowledge and experience in practical forestry and woodland management.
* Have a good working knowledge of the Countryside Stewardship grant scheme and/or EWCO and UK Forest Standard
* Innovative, enthusiastic and self-motivated with good problem-solving skills
* Clean, full UK drivers licence
* A relevant forestry qualification
* ICF membership or working towards Professional Membership Entry
Roles & Duties
Initially, work is most likely to involve assisting with current projects, including liaison with clients and contractors and checking on progress of projects.
Tasks will include
* Monitoring forestry operations such as harvesting, fencing and walling, tree survival and weeding work, rhododendron control etc
* Organising and supervising forestry and woodland contract operations using independent contractors including new planting, restocking and woodland maintenance operations. Could include tendering of work to contractors
* Woodland assessment, mapping, preparation of reports and woodland management plans
* Preparation and management of standing and roadside timber sales, monitoring harvesting operations and maximising associated returns to clients.
* Securing necessary consents and permissions
* Developing Countryside Stewardship grant applications and submitting Felling Licence applications
* Develop woodland creation projects through woodland creation planning grants and EWCO applications
* Implementing these woodland creation projects
* Occasional tree safety assessments and organising tree surgery to deal with recommendations
* Communicating closely with colleagues and clients
