What you’ll be doing
as a Lifting Inspector
In this role, you’ll safely and competently complete lifting equipment inspections in line with LOLER regulations, helping to ensure our equipment remains compliant, safe, and available for operational use. Your work will directly contribute to reducing lifting-related risk, supporting operational reliability, and maintaining high safety standards across Thames Water sites.
Your responsibilities are:
1. Carrying out statutory inspections of lifting equipment and accessories across assigned geographic areas and asset groups.
2. Completing inspections safely, compliantly, and in line with agreed schedules and company procedures.
3. Applying LOLER 1998, PUWER 1998, and relevant industry standards during all inspection activities.
4. Recording inspection findings, defects, and certification details accurately within inspection databases and reporting systems.
5. Identifying unsafe, defective, or non-compliant equipment and taking appropriate action, including reporting, isolation, or escalation.
6. Managing your own inspection workload, planning daily activities and site visits effectively.
7. Communicating professionally with operational teams, engineering colleagues, contractors, and stakeholders.
8. Escalating risks, access issues, or operational concerns appropriately through the Lifting Inspection Team Supervisor.
9. Maintaining technical competence through ongoing training, audits, and competency reviews.
Base location: Hybrid - Beckton (STW), with daily travel to other sites as required.
Working pattern: 38 Hours, Monday to Friday
What you should bring to the role
Essential
10. Level 2 or above engineering qualification (BTEC, NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent).
11. Full UK driving licence.
12. Experience carrying out statutory lifting equipment inspections.
13. Strong knowledge of LOLER 1998, PUWER 1998, and associated industry standards.
14. Relevant LEEA qualifications covering lifting equipment and accessories.
15. Ability to work independently, manage workload, and prioritise inspections across multiple sites.
16. Experience recording inspection findings, using inspection databases and reporting systems.
17. Strong safety awareness, attention to detail, and professional judgement.
Desirable
18. Experience working across geographically dispersed operational or industrial sites.
19. Knowledge of the water, utilities, or wider industrial sector.
20. Familiarity with inspection audits and quality assurance processes.
21. Additional safety or access-related training, such as IOSH, Working at Height, or MEWP.
