The Practice Development Team (PDT) aims to foster an environment that encourages learning and the enhancement of clinical skills, recognizing that professional development continues beyond initial registration.
The individual in this position will function in a supernumerary capacity within clinical settings for 80% of their time, working alongside both qualified and unqualified nursing staff to provide direct care while assisting in skill development and on-site learning programs, as well as helping staff achieve their competencies.
Collaboration with the broader education team, practice development nurses, ward managers, and other essential personnel will be key to supporting the training, delivery, and assessment of competencies in line with the multiprofessional preceptorship program.
This ensures that patient care at PAHT is safe, responsive, effective, well‑led, and compassionate.
Main duties of the job
The clinical practice educator will be a seasoned nurse capable of engaging with our diverse multidisciplinary team across all professional levels. This individual will act as a representative for the nursing quality team, assisting clinical staff in implementing the fundamentals of care, preceptorship, and various strategic initiatives within the organization. A key focus will be on enhancing patient safety, outcomes, and overall patient experience.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities
* Participate in the delivery of enhanced nursing skills within all levels of nursing
* Deliver teaching sessions to facilitate learning that results in continued staff development
* Facilitate appropriate training to ensure safe, competent clinical practice
* Participate in change management and PDSA cycle reviews, particularly those related to the delivery of nursing teaching sessions to achieve the Trust objectives
* Provide support to ward managers and matrons in delivering the quality and safety agenda through the risk management strategy, including the undertaking of risk assessments
* Act as a role model, always working in accordance with the NMC codes, trust policies and guidelines
* Support our OSCE programme leader in the preparation of International pre‑registration nurses for their test of competence (OSCE) in order to attain NMC registration
* Participate in the development of enhanced nursing skills within all levels of nursing.
* Track the improvements, competence and proficiencies of the nurses within clinical ward areas
Practice Development, Education and Training
* Participate in the effective delivery of development programs for nursing and support any working groups that are formed to enhance planning within the organization
* Partake in the evaluation and review of all registered nurse training program to meet the development needs
* Support the undertaking of the PACE audit program
* Ensure that common themes related to nursing competencies and care delivery are highlighted and mechanisms are identified to facilitate improvements.
* Support in the development of mechanisms to facilitate improvements
* Collaborate with matrons, specialist nurses, ward managers and others to facilitate a problem‑solving approach to issues raised regarding clinical practice
* Participate in the development of processes, proficiencies, competencies and clinical guidelines to enhance the patient experience
Recruitment, Retention and Workforce Planning
* Be aware of the impact of development program to deliver enhanced patient care, has on the attrition of staff
* Collaborate with recruitment, the practice education facilitators and other educational teams to support the opportunities available to improve our staff retention
* Engage in all opportunities to assess feedback received from staff and ensure that we learn from staff feedback and utilize it to enhance staff experience
* Collaborate with practice education facilitators and HEIs to support the recruitment and retention of our student nurses
* Provide advice and support to recruiting managers
* Provide information for system, regional or national education reports as required
