Overview
Consultant - Eldercare / Geriatric Medicine. Applications invited for the post of Consultant Geriatrician on behalf of the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, Cornwall. The Eldercare team provides inpatient care for Parkinson's Disease and outpatient care in community hospitals, supported by a Countywide MDT and linked to research, teaching, and collaboration across partners in the community and primary care.
The Eldercare team is dedicated to providing a first-class service with a proactive approach to teaching and innovation. The posts are supported by a large, friendly Older Peoples Service with a focus on forward thinking, patient-centered care. The role offers flexibility, including options for job-sharing or reduced hours for new consultants. The job plan for new consultants includes 2.5 SPAs in the first year.
Responsibilities
* Provide inpatient care for people with Parkinson's Disease, supported by 2 Acute PD specialist nurses and a Specialist Pharmacist.
* Deliver outpatient care based in community hospital clinics and participate in a Countywide MDT (Nurse Consultant, four Community PD Nurse Specialists, Specialist Physiotherapist, and MDT).
* Collaborate with the Research and Development team on ongoing studies in PD and contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
* Work with tertiary care partners (North Bristol NHS Trust) and maintain strong links with local branches of Parkinson's UK.
* Develop and lead areas of interest (e.g., general geriatrics, orthogeriatrics, dementia, Parkinson’s/movement disorders, community geriatrics, stroke) through innovation and service improvement, including surgical liaison where applicable.
* Engage with multi-disciplinary teams (nurses, allied health professionals, community partners, old age psychiatrists) to deliver multidisciplinary care to the community.
* Contribute to flexible working arrangements and support colleagues who wish to job-share.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Enthusiastic and dynamic individuals with an interest in expanding Older Peoples Services and Frailty pathways.
* Experience or interest in geriatrics with potential focus areas such as orthogeriatrics, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, movement disorders, community geriatrics, or stroke.
* Open to existing and newly trained Consultants; flexible working options available.
* For new consultants, the job plan includes 2.5 SPAs in the first year.
