Heriot Brown is supporting a large, well-established insurance group on a new opportunity for an experienced insurance lawyer to join their in-house team in a senior, business-facing role.
They’re looking for someone who understands how insurance products reach the market particularly through broker relationships, schemes, and delegated authority arrangements.
The role
You’ll work closely with the distribution and underwriting teams, advising on all legal aspects of product placement, customer routes and partnership models. The work will include:
* Supporting distribution teams on broker-led deals, schemes and delegated authority arrangements
* Drafting and negotiating distribution and placement agreements
* Advising on legal and regulatory risk tied to new propositions or partnerships
* Playing a leading role in projects that affect the wider portfolio
* Guiding junior lawyers (where needed) and helping shape standards across the team
* Managing external counsel in a cost-effective way
* Keeping the business informed of relevant legal or regulatory developments
You’ll be the person the commercial teams turn to when assessing how a new relationship, arrangement or product structure should work.
About you
You’ll likely bring:
* Solid experience as an insurance lawyer, either in-house or from a specialist practice
* Knowledge of broker distribution, schemes, delegated authority or related product routes
* Confidence dealing with senior business stakeholders
* A pragmatic, commercial approach able to simplify risk and move decisions forward
* Strong communication skills and the ability to influence across teams
If you’ve worked closely with distribution, brokers or delegated authority arrangements before, this will be a natural step up.
