We are looking for an enthusiastic registered nurse with experience in ophthalmology to join our team at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust as a clinical nurse specialist injector in our medical retina team.
The successful applicant will join a vibrant department which values its staff and places a strong emphasis on wellbeing and good practice.
This role will cover both sites of Darlington Memorial Hospital and Bishop Auckland Hospital.
Main duties of the job
The clinical nurse specialist will use specialist knowledge and skills to provide health care to patients attending the department for injections. The post holder will work alongside the medical retina consultants in the provision of care for Age related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic patients.
When trained in this role you will be expected to inject around 14 patients per list.
The post is Monday to Friday but there may be times when you may have to work a Saturday.
Job responsibilities
The department will offer the successful candidate an opportunity to develop in your role as a clinical nurse specialist injector and develop the role within the Age related macular degeneration service and expanding your knowledge in these areas.
We are seeking a motivated team member, team-oriented professional with a passion for delivering good nursing care. The successful candidate must possess excellent skills with a high sense of professionalism and a strong belief in the value of teamwork. Ideally the candidate would possess an ophthalmic qualification and have a desire to educate others.
The expectation is that you can drive and the role will require you to drive to the other sites.
The post is full time and will work Monday to Friday with no bank holiday working. There may be times that you have to work a Saturday.
We provide hospital services from Darlington Memorial Hospital and Bishop Auckland Hospital. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals.

Person Specification
Experience
* Relevant post experience at band 5
* Ability to manage differing caseloads and pressures whilst ensuring evidence based practice
* Past experience in Ophthalmology
Statutory Registration
* Registered Nurse (adult or Child) on part 1 of the NMC register
* Valid UK NMC PIN
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse with evidence of NMC registration
* Evidence of continued professional development
* Ophthalmic qualification
Special Requirements
* Driving posts must have a valid Full UK driving licence

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Willingness to undertake further training relevant to this role
* Ability to work under pressure
* Organised, reliable, flexible approach
* Evidence of a programme of study in an area of ophthalmic practice
* Able to practice autonomously and as part of the wider multidisciplinary team
