This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll professional with strong finance experience to play a key role in ensuring accurate payroll delivery while supporting wider financial operations and reporting. The Role
Reporting to the Management Accountant, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of monthly payroll, ensuring compliance with statutory and internal requirements, while also supporting financial reporting, reconciliations, and budget analysis.
You will work closely with Finance, HR/People teams, and budget holders to provide payroll insight, staffing cost analysis, and high-quality operational support.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Processing & Compliance
Process monthly payroll accurately and within strict deadlines
Prepare payroll reconciliation and validation reports prior to payment release
Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, pension requirements, and internal controls
Prepare and submit statutory payroll returns and pension submissions
Maintain accurate audit trails, reconciliations, and payroll documentation
Support payroll audits and resolve payroll queries efficiently
Assist with secure payroll payment processing, including BACS files
Finance & Reporting Support
Support payroll costing, budgeting, and variance analysis
Prepare regular payroll cost and trend reports
Analyse staffing costs, overtime, vacancies, allowances, and contract changes
Reconcile payroll outputs to the financial ledger
Provide support and guidance to budget holders regarding payroll-related financial information
Contribute to continuous improvement across payroll and finance systems and processes
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
Previous payroll experience within a busy finance environment
Strong understanding of payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, and pensions
Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail
Experience with reconciliations, reporting, and financial analysis
Strong communication skills with the ability to support managers and stakeholders
A proactive and collaborative approach to problem-solving
Good systems knowledge, including Excel and payroll/finance software
