About Canterbury Cathedral
Canterbury Cathedral is the cathedral of the archbishop of Canterbury, the leader of the Church of England and symbolic leader of the worldwide Anglican Communion. Located in Canterbury, Kent, it is one of the oldest Christian structures in England and forms part of a World Heritage Site.
The Role
Canterbury Cathedral is seeking a skilled and passionate Stonemason to join its dedicated Stonemasons team on a fixed-term basis. This is a rare opportunity to contribute to the ongoing care and contribution of a World Heritage Site that has stood for centuries at the heart of England's history.
Candidates should:
* Be experienced in all aspects of the trade
* Hold a City and Guilds Craft Certificate / NVQ3 in stonemasonry or equivalent
* Have at least 3 years post qualification experience
* Be skilled in the practice of working on historical buildings and at height.
This is a fixed-term contract until the end of August 2026.
What you'll be doing
* Fixing or conserving stonework as directed
* Providing general assistance to other Stonemasons
* Undertaking outside contract work as and when required.
* Operating machinery safely at all times to protect both yourself and colleagues in the workplace.
* Keeping own work area clean and tidy and assist with other cleaning when necessary.
The successful candidate should expect to work in dusty, dirty, cold and wet conditions, however appropriate protective clothing will be provided.
