SEND Specialist – Review & Improvement
Day rate: £525 per day inside IR35
Location: Hybrid (remote with some on-site meetings)
Contract: Currently signed off for 3 months
Start: January 2026
Hours: 4 days per week
An experienced SEND Specialist is required to lead a focused Local Offer Review and Improvement Project for a Local Authority based in the South West. This strategic, hands‑on role will drive rapid improvements across the Local Offer, ensuring it is accessible, compliant, user-friendly and aligned with national and local priorities.
The Role
You will lead a time‑bound programme of work to:
* Conduct a full review of the Local Offer across content, user experience, accessibility and statutory compliance
* Assess journeys for parent carers, young people and professionals, identifying gaps and inconsistencies
* Produce clear, actionable recommendations and a practical improvement plan and timeline
* Align improvements with national priorities, inclusion strategies and local system developments
* Work collaboratively with parent carers, young people and multi‑agency partners
* Support the development of sustainable governance and implementation arrangements
Requirements
* Degree or equivalent in Education, Health or Social Care
* Project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2, Agile) – desirable but not essential
* Expert understanding of SEND legislation and the SEND Code of Practice
* Knowledge of Ofsted/CQC frameworks as they relate to SEND
* Strong understanding of multi‑agency Education, Health and Care systems
* Leading or contributing to Local Offer development and/or SEND service reviews
