Overview
The Children and Young People\'s Learning Disability Service (CLD), part of the Learning Community within the Mindworks contract at Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SABP), is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Band 7 Nurse to join our team based in Godalming.
CLD is a Surrey-wide, nurse-led community service. Our multidisciplinary team includes Learning Disability Nurses, Assistant Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Music Therapists, and administrative staff. We offer regular meetings, supervision and appraisal, and ongoing opportunities for career development.
As a Band 7 Nurse, you will supervise Band 6 colleagues, provide clinical advice and case management support, and hold a group of allocated young people with their networks to support presenting needs. You will support the assessment process for pathwa ys including ASD, ADHD, and behavioural assessments, conduct observations, and gather histories for young people. You will act as a practice assessor/teacher for pre-registration students and junior staff and participate in the audit of educational placements.
Responsibilities
* Demonstrate highly specialist nursing knowledge and skills in learning disability care, including crisis intervention, alternative communication, management of mental health needs, epilepsy, medication management, challenging behaviour, and other conditions.
* Involve children and families in developing and agreeing their own care plans; advocate for dignity, choice, self-esteem, and cultural and religious needs.
* Practice within the Positive Behaviour Support framework.
* Undertake comprehensive risk assessments and develop risk management plans.
* Work in partnership with acute and primary care services and other healthcare providers.
* Establish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, other agencies, children and young people who use services, and their families.

Job responsibilities
* To support the lead nurse in delivering the nursing provision within the service
* To provide clinical supervision to junior staff
* To participate in peer supervision within the CYPS Learning Disability Team
* Ensure standards of service provision are followed, monitored and maintained
* To assess, plan, implement and evaluate the nursing care needs of children and young people with learning disabilities who use our services

Person Specification
Experience (Essential):
* 5 years of relevant post-qualification clinical experience
* 2 years experience within a learning disability community team
* Experience of leading clinical practice, service development or project work
* Experience of supervising junior staff
Qualifications (Essential):
* Registered RNLD
* Nursing mentorship qualification
Desirable:
* Additional academic clinical qualification relevant to area of work (e.g., Positive Behaviour Support Diploma; Community Practice Diploma in Community work)
* Additional leadership/management study
