Clinical Nurse with interest in Adult Inherited Metabolic Disorders Band 7
This post, currently funded for 3 years, will support the care of adult patients with Phenylketonuria (PKU), and support the support roll-out and delivery of Sapropterin to eligible patients adult patients. The post holder will work with the Adult Inherited Metabolic Disorders (IMD) Multi-Disciplinary Team to establish eligible patients on Sapropterin, and monitor their progress.The post holder will be responsible for the provision of specialist education to patients with PKU, both through clinic and group sessions.The post holder will support the delivery of care to adult patients with PKU, including delivery of nurse-led clinics, and will support both the Dietitians and Consultant in their clinic delivery. The post holder will also provide holistic care to patients, including in pregnancy, both for patients who respond and do not respond to Sapropterin treatment.The post holder will demonstrate professional leadership and contribute to service developments.The post holder will report twice yearly to the SPPG Specialist Services Commissioning Team (SSCT) for the purpose of informing and agreeing the post holder’s work programme. This will be a formal SPPG process providing the framework for service monitoring and performance in delivering the strategic outcomes framework.It is envisaged that the post holder will work collaboratively with the consultants and all members of the multi-disciplinary team responsible for the management of adult and maternal patients (including women planning pregnancy) with PKU to deliver and support care, including the roll-out of Sapropterin.The post holder will:Contribute to the development and co-ordination of policies and processes for the provision of Sapropterin to the adult PKU population;Develop collaborative care pathways that meet the needs of these patients;Contribute to an interdisciplinary team approach to care;Support the multidisciplinary team in recognising Health and Social Care needs.The post holder will provide a resource of nursing skills, knowledge, and expertise in PKU, in the delivery of Sapropterin to patients, and will work closely with the Paediatric Nurse (with specialist interest in Inherited Metabolic Disorders) to support patients with PKU transitioning from Paediatric to Adult services.The post holder will work closely with the multidisciplinary teams and other agencies and will initiate, develop, and implement effective approaches to meet the needs of these patients and their families.The post holder will initiate and participate in audit, research, and development in line with the provision of Sapropterin.The post holder will be an advocate for all patients and their families, promoting patient centred care and act as a resource for healthcare professionals involved with these patients.
Responsibilities
* Demonstrate expert knowledge in PKU and the provision of Sapropterin.

Skills and Qualifications
* Be a registered nurse on Part 1 (Adult) of the Live NMC Register.
* Degree in Nursing or relevant professional qualification.

* Be willing to undertake and successful complete a degree in nursing or healthcare related subject.
* NMC recorded Non-medical Prescribing qualification.
