Are you a passionate and experienced Occupational Therapist ready to make a real difference in crisis mental health care? Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dynamic and autonomous Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our Crisis and Home-Based Treatment Team.

As a Band 6 OT, you'll play a pivotal role in delivering responsive, recovery-focused interventions to individuals experiencing acute mental health crises. Working across community settings--including service users' homes--you'll help stabilise mental health, promote independence, and prevent hospital admissions.

You'll be collaborating within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team across Hull and the East Riding. This is a unique opportunity to lead on specialist OT input, contribute to service development, and support junior staff while upholding trauma-informed, person-centred care.

You will manage a specialist caseload and deliver evidence-based OT interventions and conduct holistic assessments, care planning, and risk management. You will supervise and support junior staff, students, and Assistant Practitioners and provide expert OT advice to colleagues across disciplines. You will contribute to service development, clinical audits, and quality improvement projects. There is an expectation to work flexibly across community settings, including remote delivery where appropriate


Main duties of the job

Specialist occupational therapy interventions: Deliver evidence-based OT care to individuals in acute mental health crisis across community settings, including service users' homes.

Holistic Assessment and Care Planning: Contribute to multidisciplinary assessments, risk management, and recovery-focused care plans.

Supervision and Support: Provide clinical supervision to junior staff, students, and Assistant Practitioners in OT (APOTs), ensuring safe and effective practice.

Service Development and Leadership: Lead on OT input within the team, contribute to service improvement initiatives, and support implementation of Trust and national policies.

Communication and collaboration: Use advanced interpersonal skills to communicate complex information sensitively and effectively with service users, carers, and colleagues.

Training and Education: Plan and deliver specialist training sessions for staff and students, and support professional development across the team.

Clinical Governance and Research: Participate in audits, quality improvement projects, and contribute to research within the OT speciality.

Documentation and I.T skills: Maintain accurate patient records and demonstrate proficiency in digital systems, adhering to confidentiality and data protection standard

Job responsibilities

Person Specification


Qualifications and knowledge

* Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
* Registration with the HCPC
* Specialist knowledge of occupational therapy models of practice, standardised assessments, and their use in practice
* Knowledge and understanding of the evidence-based relevant to the clinical area
* Evidence of current CPD/formal qualifications at an advanced level e.g. degree or post graduate level or equivalent knowledge/experiential learning
* Full understanding/application of relevant clinical practice/standards/audit within identified clinical area


Experience

* Understanding of caseload management clinical responsibilities
* Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical area


Skills and competencies

* Requirement of frequent concentration e.g., assessments, care plans
* Ability to commute between the various sites
* Awareness of leadership/management skills and qualities
