We have a 37.5‑hour post available in the Phlebotomy Department at Walsall Manor Hospital. The role involves collecting blood samples from inpatients, outpatients, the antenatal clinic, and two external sites. Working hours are Monday‑Sunday with a 7‑day rota that includes bank holidays. Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
* Perform phlebotomy on patients in inpatient, outpatient, antenatal and external sites as required.
* Provide and receive sensitive information from patients and their representatives with high people‑skills; manage distressed or aggressive patients.
* Correctly identify patients and label blood samples safely and accurately.
* Exercise professional autonomy and verify specimen collection against ward collection sheets.
Person specification
Experience
* Previous experience within the healthcare profession.
* Practical phlebotomy experience.
Knowledge
* Understanding of anatomy and physiology related to venepuncture and safe practice.
* Awareness of local clinical policies and procedures.
* Knowledge of policies regarding risk reduction, lone working and vulnerable adults.
Qualifications
* Minimum of two GCSEs or equivalent.
* Phlebotomy qualification with practical experience.
* Formal phlebotomy training.
* NVQ qualification.
