Occupational Therapist - Intensive Support Team LD

The post holder will provide Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment interventions to adults with a learning disability and additional intensive support needs including mental health and /or challenging behaviour, within specified inpatient and/or community settings. The post holder will use evidence based, client centred practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate one to one, and group based interventions within the setting.
The post holder will manage a defined caseload, using evidence based/client centred practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
The post holder will work as a senior member of a multidisciplinary team, providing advice to the multidisciplinary team as required.
The role will support leadership and provide clinical supervision to junior staff and undertake a practice placement educator role, the post holder will be expected to allocate work to Assistant Practitioners and ongoing support on a daily basis, as well as supervision and appraisal.

The Occupational Therapist will be an integrated member of the multi-professional Learning Disability Team and support the provision of and access to Learning Disability and/or other services.
The Occupational Therapist will be able to conduct comprehensive assessment with patients and families/carers, including the use of specific occupational focussed assessments and case formulation
To support the leadership of a needs led service developing and delivering evidenced based and outcome focussed therapeutic interventions in response to service user need.
To contribute to meeting professional, service and Trust wide and national standards.
Ensures timely response according to service standards to referrals to the Inpatient service.
Participates in planned out of hours work as required by the service and clinical priorities.
Autonomous responsibility for maintaining accurate and contemporaneous client records, in order to ensure compliance with departmental, professional and legal requirements.
To maintain a professional portfolio for CPD recording learning outcomes through participation in internal and external development opportunities, ensuring that practice is evidence based.
Contributes to the wider OT service development, including audit, research and evaluation.
To adhere to the COT Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, HCPC standards and all trust relevant policies and procedures.
To undertake any other duties of a similar nature consistent with the responsibilities of this post in order to provide a quality Intensive Support Team for Adults with learning Disabilities.
Person Specification
Competencies and professional criteria
* HCPC Registration
* Experience of working within learning disability and/or mental health services
* Experience of supporting junior Occupational Therapy staff, Assistant practitioners and OT students
* Post graduate training in relevant courses e.g. Sensory based approaches, MOHOST, Trauma informed practice
* Experience of working within Learning disability services
* Experience of working within an inpatient LD or MH setting
* Post graduate training specifically related to sensory based approaches/theory
