Consultant MSK Radiologist with an interest in SPECT-CT The closing date is 10 June 2026
Applications are invited for a part time (0.5WTE of 5 fixed sessions per week) consultant musculoskeletal radiologist with an interest in SPECT CT, at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital.
The successful candidate will work with the current team to provide the highest level of patient care in musculoskeletal imaging including diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal radiology and will be expected to be active in research, presentation and publication.
The department has 14 full time consultant radiologists.
We are seeking a candidate that works with a patient/problem‑orientated approach to orthopaedic conditions.
Main duties of the job The post holder will be expected to maintain the highest clinical standards in the practice of musculoskeletal radiology and will undertake any reasonable clinical responsibility which relates to all aspects of this.
The postholder will be expected to be actively involved in the management of the department including attendance at MDT and monthly meetings. They will be expected to participate and present in the weekly bone and soft tissue sarcoma MDT. Knowledge and experience of bone and soft tissue sarcoma radiology is imperative for the post. In addition, the post holder is expected to cover weekly general and local anaesthetic biopsy lists for bone and soft tissue lesions. Experience in complex spinal intervention is necessary, including biopsies and facet/nerve root injections.
Experience of tertiary level Paediatric radiology is paramount. The post holder will be expected to participate in the weekly CRMO Paediatric MDT. Other MDTs which they will be asked to lead on occasionally includes the Myeloma MDT/ Scoliosis‑spine deformity MDT. Other interventional lists include fluoroscopic guided joint injections, synovial biopsies and ultrasound guided injections. Diagnostic ultrasound experience of soft tissue lesions is also vital for this role. Any experience in MSK SPECT‑CT radiology reporting, Baby hip ultrasound evaluating for dysplasia and cryoablation will be welcomed.
Person Specification Education Qualification and Training
Appropriate higher qualification(s) relevant to the role: FRCR (or overseas equivalent)
Entry on the GMC specialist register with CCT or equivalent (proposed CCT/CESR date must be within 3 months of interview)
Musculoskeletal Radiology fellowship including evidence of extensive bone and soft tissue sarcoma experience.
Quantitative demonstration of dedicated MSK (including spinal) interventional procedural experience.
Full GMC registration
Paediatric CRMO MDT experience
Experience in musculoskeletal SPECT CT reporting/ cryoablation procedures
Experience in baby hip ultrasound imaging
Skills
Competent in all aspects of skills appropriate to the role.
Experience in effectively delivering training / teaching nursing and medical staff
Track record of MSK radiology publications in reputable journals
Organisation or participation in delivery of educational courses / conferences.
Experience in conflict management and able to motivate colleagues (medical and non‑medical)
Knowledge
Broad training across all the modalities of Clinical Radiology that will enable full participation in the on‑call rota.
Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care.
