We are seeking dedicated Waste Operatives to support the rollout of food waste collections across Rossendale. This is a hands-on, outdoor role where you’ll help deliver essential waste and recycling services to residents across the Borough.
About the Role
You will:
* Collect waste, recycling, and food waste materials safely and efficiently
* Inspect containers, reject contaminated bins in line with council policy, and help maintain clean streets
* Assist Drivers/Team Leaders with vehicle checks, route familiarisation, paperwork, and in-cab systems (e.g. Bartec)
* Deliver bins, leaflets, and information to residents
* Support wider operational services including street cleansing, fly-tip clearance, grounds maintenance, and cemetery tasks
* Represent the Council professionally when interacting with the public
Flexibility is essential, as overtime, Bank Holiday, weekend, and on-call working may be required.
What We’re Looking For
* GCSE-level education (or equivalent)
* Experience in waste, recycling, street cleansing, or similar operational work (desirable)
* Category C, C1 or B Driving Licence (desirable)
* Driver Qualification Card (DQC) and Digital Tacho Card (desirable)
* Strong communication skills and confidence using handheld electronic devices
* A reliable team player who can also work independently
* Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
* Committed to Health & Safety and high-quality service delivery
