Lead Maintenance Engineer – Distribution Centre
Darlington, £35,000 + £5,000 car allowance + overtime, Full-Time, Permanent
We’re hiring for a Lead Engineer to join a national FM service provider, working client side at a large and fast-paced distribution centre in Darlington.
This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for an experienced engineer ready to step up and take ownership of site-wide service delivery.
The Role
You’ll lead a small, multi-skilled team, overseeing all hard services delivery across the site, including:

PPM and reactive maintenance (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, building fabric)
*
Compliance (LOLER, insurance standards, permit to work systems)
*
Contractor management and coordination
*
Daily client communication, including updates to senior supply chain/property contacts
*
Site-based project work and minor capital improvements
This is a busy, demanding environment — you’ll need to stay calm under pressure, be able to manage competing priorities, and keep both the client and your team onside.
What We’re Looking For
*
Strong background in facilities maintenance or building services (M&E, multiskilled, or fabric bias)
*
Experience working in a distribution centre or similar industrial site
*
Comfortable leading others, allocating work, managing safety and compliance
*
Confident communicator who can deal with senior client stakeholders
*
IOSH or similar H&S training desirable
*
Full UK driving licence
