Job overview

1. This is an opportunity for qualified Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) who will be two years post-qualification by January 2026.
2. You will have completed the one-year EMHP Postgraduate Diploma
3. You will hold professional registration with either the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) or the British Psychological Society (BPS).

The post holder will be expected to complete the requirements of the 2-year Senior Wellbeing Practitioner Post Graduate Diploma at Kings College London to enable progression to a fully qualified Senior Wellbeing Practitioner.

The KCL CYP MH Low Intensity Advanced Practice PGDip Course (for Senior Wellbeing Practitioners) start date is Monday 26th January 2026.

Applicants will need to apply simultaneously with KCL for this training course. The university portals are open until the 25 of November 2025. If a candidate has not applied to the university before the portal closing date, then they will be ineligible for the course.

Main duties of the job

4. Work as part of the Lewisham MHST team to manage a defined caseload with a focus on providing focused assessment and evidence-based intervention for children and young people (CYP) with mild to moderate mental health difficulties and their parents/carers.
5. Plan and deliver whole school activities, as part of a school’s whole school/college approach to mental health and wellbeing.
6. Provide consultation and guided signposting to education settings.
7. Be expected to provide Case Management and Clinical Skills Supervision to qualified and/or trainee EMHPs within the service.
8. Be able to work flexibly across a range of education providers. Promote the participation of CYP families, carers and the wider school community.
9. Promote equity, diversity and inclusion within their own role, the MHST and school communities, contributing to enabling other staff, children, young people, families, carers and the wider school community from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.

Working for our organisation

Lewisham MHST is a growing service designed to help meet the mental health needs of CYP in education settings. As an early intervention service, the MHST delivers interventions in schools for those with mild to moderate mental health issues and supports schools with developing their whole school approach to mental health and wellbeing. The team will also help CYP with more severe needs access the right support, working with schools to provide a link to specialist NHS services.

Working with schools to improve mental health outcomes for children and young people, including planning and delivering activities as part of a whole school/college approach, providing assessment and intervention using evidence-based approaches and providing guided signposting and liaison with other services. Qualifications

Essential criteria

10. CYP - IAPT Post-Graduate Diploma or Certificate (EMHP) with two years post qualification experience within an MHST service by January 2026.
11. Professional registration with the BPS or BABCP

Desirable criteria

12. Evidence of CPD relevant to working with CYP in schools or community settings (, Formal training in parenting interventions/Incredible Years)

Experince

Essential criteria

13. Demonstrable post qualification experience, including experience of working with CYP’s with mild to moderate mental health problems and their families using CBT or CBT informed GSH.
14. Experience and ability to function as a practitioner in CYP mental health services (, assessment, risk assessment/management, use of ROMS, record keeping, case management, MDT)
15. Experience in design and delivery of workshops, groups and interventions to CYP target audience.
16. Evidence of providing culturally adapted interventions.

Desirable criteria

17. Experience of supervising junior staff or trainees
18. Experience in working with Special Educational Needs and neurodivergent CYP

Knowledge / Skills /abilities

Essential criteria

19. Knowledge of CYP mental health needs, statutory guidance and literature (, The Children Act 1989, 2004 and The Mental Health Act 1983, 2007, Human Rights Act 1998 and Mental Capacity Act 2005, London Child Protection Procedures, Information Governance, GDPR)
20. Ability to analyse risk and respond appropriately, seeking support as necessary
21. Ability to provide virtual and face to face interventions according to target audience needs.
22. Proven ability as a reflective practitioner and ability to effect change based on lessons learnt.

Desirable criteria

23. Skills in teaching and supporting trainees.
24. Research, audit and quality improvement methodologies
