The main purposes of the Scrutiny are to:
To provide support to the Council’s scrutiny function and the Scrutiny and Project Manager as well as working with senior officers and elected members to help design annual scrutiny work programmes. Provide expert advice and research on scrutiny functions and reviews, produce scrutiny reports, and ensure recommendations are monitored.
To provide support to key democratic services activities and projects such as elections and electoral registration projects, ICT and digital workstreams, wider democracy and civic events.
The Scrutiny Officer needs to be able to communicate clearly, analyse information, understand how councils and politics work, whilst remaining political neutral, manage projects from start to finish, and build strong working relationships with senior officers and councillors. They also need to be able to gather evidence effectively, stay organised, keep up to date with new legislation, and feel confident using digital tools and systems.

We’re looking for a curious, confident and motivated Scrutiny Officer who wants to influence how local services are shaped and delivered.
This is a varied and rewarding role at the heart of local democracy. You’ll work closely with elected Members and senior officers, supporting decision‑making and helping ensure transparency, accountability and positive outcomes for our communities.
What you’ll be doing

* Gathering, analysing and interpreting evidence to inform decisions
* Turning complex information into clear, impactful reports and recommendations
* Supporting scrutiny committees and contributing to the wider work of Democratic Services, including ICT improvements, civic activity and elections
