Practical Instructor – Electrical Installations

Join to apply for the Practical Instructor – Electrical Installations role at The Bedford College Group.

Location: Tresham College – Corby and/or Wellingborough Campuses.

Salary/Benefits: Salary between £27,717 and £32,515 per annum (DOE and qualifications), 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays, pensions, retail/leisure discounts, professional development opportunities, access to college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year.

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time.

This is a UK based contract. You must have the right to work in the UK. Sponsorship is not available.


About The Role

We are seeking a Practical Instructor in Electrical Installations to join our Building Services department.


Responsibilities

* Workshop Management – Maintain workshop facilities, ensuring tools, machines, and materials are secure, serviceable, and meet health & safety standards for an excellent student experience.
* Teaching & Learning – Plan, deliver, and assess practical sessions and life skills education, creating engaging, inclusive learning opportunities tailored to individual needs.
* Student Progress & Behaviour – Monitor attendance, behaviour, and achievement; set clear objectives, provide feedback, and implement interventions.
* Curriculum & Quality – Prepare schemes of work, resources, and assessments; contribute to course development, quality improvement, and compliance with awarding body standards.
* Professional Standards – Uphold safeguarding, equality, diversity, health & safety, engage in CPD, collaborate with colleagues, and support college-wide activities and events.


About You

* Qualifications – Level 3 Electrical Diploma (2365-03/8202-30 or equivalent); GCSE English & Maths (A–C) or Level 2; willingness to achieve First Aid, Level 3 Teaching Award, Level 3 TAQA, Cert‑Ed if not already held.
* Industry Expertise – Up-to-date vocational skills and experience in the electrical industry; knowledge of latest technology and quality assurance systems.
* Teaching Skills – Ability to teach across vocational areas and learner levels using varied approaches; deliver courses through multiple learning modes; motivate and inspire learners.
* Professional Standards – Strong interpersonal and communication skills; commitment to safeguarding, health & safety, and continuous professional development; ability to maintain appropriate boundaries.
* Flexibility & Teamwork – Good organisational skills, reflective practice, willingness to work across college sites, and adapt to changing work patterns.

Tresham College has three main sites in Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough, each with impressive modern buildings.
