Job Summary
This role covers long‑term sickness and involves comprehensive consultant‑based, patient‑centred management of general surgical and colorectal conditions, including the diagnosis of malignant colorectal disease. You will also participate in the General Surgery emergency on‑call rota and contribute to a consultant‑led service.
Main Duties
* Provide on‑call support out of hours and remain contactable and available when on call.
* Carry out ward rounds and assist with undergraduate teaching programmes.
* Participate in the development of postgraduate training for F1s, F2s, SpR, STs and other staff.
* Act as Educational Supervisor to junior and middle‑grade medical staff, including responsibility for appraisal and personal development planning.

Job Responsibilities
The general clinical duties will be shared on an equal basis with the present Consultants and include all duties normally expected in the management of surgical patients. Duties will be based at Stepping Hill and possibly Buxton Cottage Hospital. Where the post holder is required to travel between sites, clinic times will be adjusted to allow for travel.
Contract will be offered at 10PAs + 3% on‑call supplement.

Successful appointment requires an enhanced DBS check (cost £54.50, deducted from first salary) and a subscription to the DBSA update service (£16 annually).
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
* FRCS (General Surgery)
* Appropriate higher surgical qualifications / MB.BCh or equivalent
* Entry onto the General Medical Council’s Specialist Register or receipt of CCT within 6 months of interview

* Evidence of specialist development in Upper GI Surgery
