12 Month Contract With A Local Authority Job Purpose To provide strategic and operational support across governance, performance, complaints, and service improvement functions within the Children & Education Directorate. The postholder will play a key role in supporting the delivery of strategic priorities, ensuring effective governance arrangements, promoting continuous improvement, and helping to maintain high standards of accountability, compliance, and service delivery. Key Responsibilities Support the coordination and delivery of strategic projects, governance activities, and directorate priorities. Assist in the management and monitoring of complaints, feedback, and enquiries, ensuring learning is captured and used to drive service improvement. Prepare, review, and quality assure reports, briefings, presentations, and governance documentation for senior leaders, elected members, committees, and other stakeholders. Support Member liaison activities and contribute to the preparation of Cabinet, Council, and committee business. Maintain and monitor governance frameworks, risk registers, action plans, and performance reporting processes. Support the development and implementation of business continuity arrangements and service improvement initiatives. Coordinate responses to information requests, including Freedom of Information (FOI), Subject Access Requests (SAR), and other statutory enquiries. Assist with the development, review, and implementation of policies, procedures, and governance processes. Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Council to support effective partnership working and organisational objectives. Promote equality, diversity, inclusion, anti-racist practice, and trauma-informed approaches across all areas of work. Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of service performance, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement. Support the management of digital content and communication activities to ensure information remains accurate, accessible, and up to date. Requirements Experience working within a governance, strategy, performance, policy, or corporate support environment. Strong understanding of governance frameworks, risk management, and organisational compliance requirements. Experience supporting complaints management, service improvement, or customer feedback processes. Experience preparing reports, briefings, and presentations for senior management and stakeholders. Knowledge of information governance requirements, including FOI, GDPR, and Subject Access Requests. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Ability to build effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior leaders and elected members. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and corporate management systems. Experience working within local government or the public sector. Knowledge of Children & Education services and related statutory frameworks. Experience supporting committee management and democratic governance processes. Experience working with performance management, risk management, or business continuity frameworks. Understanding of equality, diversity, inclusion, anti-racist practice, and trauma-informed approaches.
