Service Manager

The Service Manager is a key role within the Critical Care, Anaesthetics and Theatres Collaborative and responsible for the operational portfolio for all specialties and is accountable to the General Manager. This involves the delivery of operational performance targets, Finance, HR and Quality standards within the designated portfolio.

The Service Manager will work in partnership with the clinical leads and teams to ensure that activity and quality targets are achieved and will also be responsible for developing action plans to support service improvements.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will work closely with the senior Collaborative team, and will assist the General Manager in developing services and ensuring long term sustainability. They will also support the General Manager in the specific support in relation to their portfolio of services which they are operationally responsible.

The individual will have responsibility for staff and budgetary management within their portfolio and for ensuring that performance targets and strategic objectives are met. This will include supporting theatre scheduling to meet the trust capacity and demand requirement to achieve national standards.

The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. DBS charges are as follows if applicable to the post:

Standard Check: £21.50 + Administration cost of £6.50 = £28.00. Deducted from salary over following 4 months or one off payment.

Enhanced Check: £49.50 + administration cost of £6.50 = £56.00. Deducted from salary over following 4 months or one off payment.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Professional qualification to Masters level or equivalent professional education in a relevant field
* Training in leadership and management skills in an NHS setting.


Knowledge and Experience

* Knowledge and experience of Health Service management
* Knowledge and experience of workforce redesign
* Knowledge of statutory and legal frameworks within health and social Care
* Knowledge of Business Planning processes
* Experience as a senior manager including multi-disciplinary team management
* Developing effective networks and partnerships and stakeholder engagement
* Evidence of delivery and a track record of success
* Experience of delivering significant change within a clinical environment.
* Training in Change management
* Knowledge of the area of the Collaborative
* Experience of the area of the Collaborative
* Experience in leading investigations


Skills and Aptitudes

* Communication / presentation skills - able to engage and communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders
* Ability to critically analyse and interpret data / statistical information
* Resilient, able to challenge as well as deal with challenge
* Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
* Manage own workload - work with autonomy priorities and also to know when to elevate concerns and ask for help.
* Politically astute
* Ability to negotiate and influence others
* Able to manage conflict.
* Establish visibility and credibility in equal measure across all localities.
* Coaching and mentoring skills


Personal Circumstances

* Ability to travel independently across Cumbria.
* Participate in the Out of Hours/On Call system
* Driving Licence
