Jacobs have an excellent internship opportunity available to 'Year in Industry' students. The role provides the opportunity to work on the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) rail project, a project of huge importance in the North of England. The post is for a full time Jacobs employee but may also include periods of time working with both Network Rail (the client Jacobs works alongside as part of the Programme Management Organisation) and a number of employees from other rail businesses which form Alliances and make up the Programme Delivery Organisations. Jacobs is ever evolving and striving for the best and most efficient ways of working and is invested in you and your success. As such, no clearly defined role is provided at this time as candidates will be assessed at interview and roles can be adapted not only to suit the project demands but also to take into account the abilities and aspirations of the individual. Examples of previous roles are provided below. What could be your role be on TRU? Role: Assistant Project Manager: The Contract Management Team are a client facing team responsible for engaging with the client (Network Rail) and liaising with both them and the Jacobs Teams to ensure we are compliant and in line with the contract. They support the management and administration of the contract with reporting; financial applications and scheduling/planning. Example of Responsibilities include: * Responsibility for running Production Meetings and creating new workplans for the week ahead * Producing reporting dashboards * Monthly Status Reports * Updating project financial trackers * Event Planning * Keeping records of employee authority to work on project and subcontractor timesheets * Involvement in commercial reporting and trusted with sensitive financial data * Support to Project Manager, Commercial Manager, Planner and the Wider (Technical Design Authority) TDA Team where needed, learning key project management functions whilst managing a large team * Client facing role, interacting with the client on an almost daily basis. Supporting the client's needs in regard to the contract * Publication of key project documentation, and other related materials * Line Management duties. Requirements and V&V: The Requirements and Validation and Verification (V&V) team deliver the Transpennine Route Upgrade requirements management process and V&V management process at programme-level. The team capture programme level requirements across a variety of sources to produce a coherent, consistent set of programme-level requirements in accordance with Network Rail standards and policies. Example of Responsibilities include: * Verification and Validation; making sure that the work carried out by other departments is meeting the specifications requested by the customer. * Reading technical documents and drawings and automating the formatting of data from Industry Standard Programme tools IBM Doors to Excel using Visual Basic (VBA) (program language for Microsoft applications) Also using ProjectWise and ProjectMapper * Assisting V&V team in creating and managing VVMs (Verification and Validation Matrices) * Support as required to V&V Team * Supporting the wider TDA workstreams if/when necessary. * Using ProjectWise and ProjectMapper to verify TRU assets and relevant data. * Using Excel and VBA for Data Visualisation to support the V&V Process. Train Performance Management: The Performance team carry out a lot of data analysis tasks on a number of industry recognised software's. For example, populating systems with previously identified and defined data requirements. Asset management is a multi-disciplinary workstream part of the Project Management Office (PMO) and is made up of a number of specialties. The Asset Management team are responsible for capturing and visualising data, utilising a number of industry recognised software to carry out data analysis and modelling. For example, working closely with alliance partners to ensure data defined in data requirements is being captured and populated in databases. Asset Management is a multi-disciplinary workstream that is part of the Project Management Office (PMO) and is made up of a number of specialties. Example of Responsibilities include: * Assistance within the Performance, Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (PRAM) team, this includes PRAM Modelling, Reliability Block Diagrams, delivering reports and visuals to aid in the output of results. * Performance team will make significant progress in enhancing the way train service performance is analysed and understood. * Frequent use of PowerBi Dashboards to aid visual representation of working outputs. * Frequent usage of Python, SQL, VBA within Excel as well as other languages and tools to support engineers with statistical data analysis and management tasks. * Development of the TRU Digital Twin, working to make data more accessible and usable. * Working collaboratively with the Engineering Information Management (EIM) including BIM, GIS and iModel. * Working with Enterprise Partners to strengthen relationships fostering collaboration and more effective sharing of data and insights to collectively drive performance improvements. Common Safety Method and Interoperability: The TRU Programme Safety Team delivers System Safety for the TRU Programme in accordance with the Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment Regulations (CSM RA) 2013, and oversees Authorisations in accordance with the Railway (Interoperability) Regulations (RIR) 2011. This team supports the RSI team and leads on the safety assurance for the wider programme, allowing for the TRU programme to put sections of the railway into operational use. This team focusses on providing support to the Sponsor team to provide Client level assurance that the requirements for compliance with CSM and RIR are met at TRU programme level and being considered in a consistent manner across the whole programme within the designs being prepared by the Delivery Partner organisations. Example of Responsibilities include: * Tracking of authorisation required to be obtained by other duty holders, that are necessary for successful implementation of Key Output stages as a system. * Maintaining the TRU Programme Assurance register and liaising with Industry Partners to ensure information in the register is accurate and up to date * Organising triage workshops with Industry Partners to assess scope of works and produce triage reports using the SI4D (System Integration for Delivery) for Safety, Security, Compatibility, Performance and Operation & Maintenance disciplines. * Developing Key Output Assurance evidence list, track delivery and progressive assurance using S-curves and swimlane diagrams * Supporting System Review Group (SRG) to demonstrate System Integration and readiness in order to gain endorsement for the putting into use of the major programme stages * Hazard identification and management of System level hazards - issues relating to the safe integration of the Programme including systemwide interfaces, together with hazards due to the complex nature of the Programme which cannot be appropriately managed at sub-programme or project level. * Development of Programme level Safety Documents in accordance with client standards * Setting out delivery requirements to support programme level planning * Attending meetings with wider industry partners to support assurance delivery * Supporting submissions to the Independent Assessment Body to support acquiring Safety Assessment Reports * Supporting submissions to the System Review Panel (SRP) to gain endorsement for the major programme stages * Motivation to own your work to ensure on-time completion; * Be able to operate within tight deadlines in accordance with company and client requirements * A willingness to learn and be open to change * Work well within a team * You must have the right to work in the UK The selection Process You should include a copy of your CV and covering letter with your application that highlights your interest in the position and why you think you would be a good fit for Jacobs.
