Job Overview
The older person’s medicine department includes the Acute Frailty Unit, Ward 7, Ward 8, Ward 17, Ward 18, and Ward 20. Fellows may be expected to work across all these areas flexibly. The department cares for older people often living with frailty, dementia, and comorbidities. We provide a holistic, multidisciplinary, patient-centred approach based on comprehensive geriatric assessment principles.
Main Duties of the Job
Duties and Responsibilities
* The appointee is responsible to the Consultants for executing professional duties and supervising junior staff.
* Responsible for routine and emergency patient admissions.
* Be on duty for emergencies as per the rota.
* Conduct daily ward rounds to assess patient progress, ensure treatments are followed, and attend rounds with Consultants.
* Maintain adequate patient notes and ensure timely correspondence.
* Be available to discuss cases with relatives if required.
* Keep Consultants informed of serious cases, deaths, and other significant matters. Refer doubtful cases to the Consultant.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities
* Perform duties assigned by the department's Consultant staff, including emergencies.
* Provide tuition, training, and supervision to F1s (House Officers) and occasionally lecture nursing staff.
* Report health concerns of junior staff to the Consultant.
Daily Commitment
* Participate in ward rounds, practical procedures, and meetings with relatives daily.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential: MB, ChB or equivalent, Valid ALS Certificate, 1 year in SHO acute General Medicine with acute on-call experience, at least two years post-registration.
Desirable: Part I MRCP, Part II Written or PACES or equivalent.
Previous Experience
Essential: Experience in acute medical take and inpatient medicine; suitable for SHO level ward work and able to undertake ward rounds.
Skills and Knowledge
Essential: Good organization, decision-making, coping with medical complexity, interpersonal skills, and the ability to seek help when needed.
