The Role
Band 5 Staff Nurse within General Surgery at Royal Alexandra Hospital. The role involves delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred care in a fast‑paced acute setting. Responsibilities include assessment, care planning, coordinating patient care through admission to discharge, managing the ward in the absence of senior staff, supervising junior staff, managing resources, maintaining accurate documentation, and participating in audits and quality improvement.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess, plan, implement and evaluate evidence‑based care programmes for a defined patient group
* Coordinate seamless patient care from admission through to discharge in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
* Take responsibility for the management of the ward or department in the absence of the Senior Charge Nurse or Deputy
* Support, supervise and provide guidance to junior staff, students and support workers
* Contribute to effective resource management including staffing, supplies and medicines
* Maintain accurate, timely and compliant patient documentation in line with NMC standards
* Participate in audit, quality improvement activities and risk management processes
Qualifications, Training and Experience
* Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration
* Relevant clinical experience within a healthcare or surgical setting
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to work effectively in a team
* Good organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise workload
* Ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions
* Evidence of ongoing professional development and commitment to learning
* Competent IT skills and ability to maintain accurate electronic records

Work Hours
