Job summary: As a Specialist Grade Doctor, you will provide expert community psychiatric care to people with intellectual disabilities who reside within the county of Pembrokeshire. The service has implemented Dementia, Epilepsy and PMLD pathways. You will lead clinical care, teaching activities and contribute to service development and governance.
Key Responsibilities
* Ensure provision and delivery of a first‑class clinical service.
* Provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the speciality.
* Sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate.
* Adhere to Health Board procedures, operating policies and contractual requirements.
* Participate in the consultant on‑call rota (1 in 14).
* Maintain confidence of business plans and development strategies for the specialty.
* Apply core clinical expertise in Intellectual Disability Psychiatry.
* Lead, train and support multi‑disciplinary teams.
* Participate in CPD, audit and evidence‑based medicine initiatives.
* Maintain professional development for revalidation.
* Supervise junior and middle‑grade medical staff.
* Conduct regular multi‑disciplinary clinical audit and provide evidence‑based medicine.
Additional Responsibilities
* Conduct comprehensive assessments, formulate and review treatment plans.
* Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
* Contribute to the development and implementation of care pathways.
* Support teaching and training initiatives and participate in clinical governance activities.
* Actively shape service improvements across the Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Directorate.
Qualifications and Knowledge
* Full registration and licence to practice with the General Medical Council.
* Valid Certified Advanced Life Support (ATLS/ALS/PALS).
* MRCPHYSCH or equivalent higher qualification in psychiatry.
* Section 12 approval with expected AC (Approved Clinician) status within 12 months.
* Minimum 12 years’ postgraduate experience with at least 6 years in psychiatry.
* Evidence of leading a team, clinical competence, audit and quality improvement experience.
* Experience within the NHS and knowledge of safeguarding requirements.
