JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE
The physicist works with the Radiation Oncologist, Dosimetrist, Radiotherapy Technologist and others to assure the accurate delivery of all aspects of a treatment prescription. He/she is directly involved in patient care whereby his/her decisions in the treatment of the patients contribute to optimal safe and effective patient care. Responsible for calibration of machines, office radiation safety, quality assurance of diagnostic and therapy equipment and accessories. Supervisor of dosimetrists.
ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Performance specification, acceptance testing, and commissioning of new equipment.
2. Development and maintenance of quality assurance programs for all treatment modalities, localization procedures, and computational equipment to assure that patients receive prescribed doses within acceptable degrees of accuracy.
3. Maintenance of all instrumentation required for calibration of sources, measurement of radiation and calibration of doses.
4. First-order maintenance of treatment units in conjunction with the service technician.
5. Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Required Education for Staff Job Levels: The clinical medical physicist should have a graduate degree (M.S. or PhD) in medical physics. Candidate should be Board Certified or Board Eligible with ABR.
