SUMMARY Job Title: Lab Technician Location: Dundee SALARY: £25,000 – £35,000 CONTRACT TYPE: Full-time, permanent JOB DESCRIPTION You will work in a team of fellow scientists and technicians, supervised by senior scientists to assist in a range of techniques including bacterial fermentation, protein purification, analytical assays (e.g. SDS PAGE, ELISA), mammalian cell culture. The precise type of activity you will be assigned is likely to change frequently according to current demands. Your work will also include documentation of experiments according to company standards, as well as data analysis using MS Excel, protocol documentation using MS Word, and standard image analysis. Your role will require a good degree of mental flexibility but also offer you the opportunity to acquire a diverse set of widely applicable skills hugely benefitting future career development. EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS You hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a Biomedical subject. Industry experience is a plus but not a prerequisite. Experience in some of the techniques listed as follows: Category 1: protein purification techniques including chromatography techniques such as AEX, IMAC, SEC. Category 2: mammalian cell culture including cell assays (e.g. luciferase/ cellular bioassays, growth assays) Category 3: bacterial fermentation including plasmid transfection, standard analysis including SDS PAGE, Western blot, ELISA. * Experience in at least some of the techniques listed above, the more the better.
* Ability to quickly pick up new techniques (being a fast learner is essential).
* Ability to work under conditions of company deadlines, which may cause extra workload to meet targets.
* Team player personality.
* Neat and tidy personality, reflected in maintenance of high standards of cleanliness and ability to precisely and reliably document experiments.
