To support the Operational Lead in the professional development and management of social care staff. This will include providing professional specialist advice, support, guidance and practice supervision to a range of qualified and non-qualified staff working within Adult Social Care.
This post is in Adult Frailty and Specialist Services Directorate, based in the Discharge to Assess Team which sits within the Urgent Care System in Plymouth, although there may be a requirement to work in or support other areas such as Integrated Community Services.

Main duties of the job
This role will include activities that promote continuous professional development and the delivery of high-quality support to users. The post holder will be required to demonstrate a high level of professional competence in social work practice to nationally recognised standards, adopting a person-centred and reflective approach.
The post holder will be directly responsible for professional supervision and appraisal of staff. Reporting to the Deputy Head when required. The post will promote the delivery of personalisation in accordance with statutory requirements and departmental policy

5.1 Responsibility for People Management
To provide practice supervision to a range of qualified and non-qualified staff working within Adult Social Care.
To promote continuous professional development and the delivery of high quality support to users
To provide advice and assistance to Social Workers and Community Care Workers in relation to complex case work.
To support workers to manage work within their caseloads as well as managing the emotional demands of their own workload.
To facilitate and support the professional development of social care staff by providing professional supervision.
To provide a clear and responsive practice leadership role within the Team including demonstrating best practice, mentoring staff and promoting the highest professional standards via peer reviews and audits.
To manage performance of staff in collaboration with the Deputy Head, including the implementation, monitoring and review of practice improvement action plans for individuals and groups of staff.
Concentration required when providing supervisions and practice guidance ensuring staff work within legislation, national and local procedures.
There will be conflicting demands when more than one person requires support at the same time.
Conflicting information may require the post holder to use judgement to assess a particular situation and decide on the best resolution and advise the worker accordingly.

To participate in Case Reviews and assist with Deprivation of Liberty investigations.
Delegated responsibility on a day to day basis for supporting staff with issues such as: Protection of Vulnerable Adults Procedures, promoting personalisation and risk enablement.
To undertake duties based on current professional knowledge as well as legislative and statutory requirements.
Demonstrates a high level of professional competence in social work practice to nationally recognized standards, adopting a person-centred and reflective approach.
To maintain a knowledge and expertise of the work the service undertakes in order to contribute to the development of services including best practice systems and protocols which support the delivery of a quality service and reflect any changes required.
Relaying of information to service users and carers where personal budgets do not meet expectations requiring the application of judgement and empathetic negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
Travel to visit service users homes, attend meetings and court.
To chair Best Interest meetings, Risk management meetings and Safeguarding /conference meetings
5.5 Responsibility for implementation of policy and/or service developments
Assist Deputy Head to develop the team to meet key performance requirements.
To assist with the implementation of and application of Livewell Southwest policies and procedures.

May need to be available to work within any of the Livewell Southwest sites as required.

8.1 Risk Management
In accordance with the Risk Management Strategy, employees will participate, whenever required, with the risk management process. They will support line managers by attending mandatory and statutory training, completing incident/accident forms for every adverse event or near miss that occurs, report all defects and complaints, and communicate any dangerous situation to individuals potentially at risk.
8.2 Health and Safety at Work

All staff must comply with infection control policies and guidance, attend relevant updates and report issues of concern to their immediate line manager (if no action or explanation received, then it is the individuals responsibility to escalate their concerns to the Director of Operations or Chief Executives Office).
8.4 Safeguarding Children and Adults
All employees have a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and adults and are required to act in such a way that at all times safeguards their health and wellbeing. Familiarisation with and adherence to national and local safeguarding adults and children policies is an essential requirement upon all employees. Livewell Southwest has specific safeguarding policies and in addition, employees also have a responsibility to practice and work within the multi-agency policy developed by the Safeguarding Adults Board and the Safeguarding Children Board. Staff are also required to participate in related mandatory/statutory training.
8.6 Sustainability and climate change
All staff are expected to take responsibility for the reduction of carbon emissions within their area of the organisation. In particular this may relate to reducing energy consumption, making low carbon travel choices, consideration of goods and services being purchased, and waste reduction.
8.7 Other

The Working Time Regulations apply to all employees of Livewell Southwest. In particular, Livewell Southwest will not permit staff in all employments to work in excess of 48 hours in any one week except where there are exceptional service needs where an absolute limit of averaging over a reference period of 17 weeks would apply.
