What is the overall job?
Reporting directly to the Data Architect within the Data function, the Senior BI Developer is responsible for the data engineering and business intelligence development lifecycle for data products and services supporting our global and regional data, analytical and AI needs across all business functions. The role will support delivery, development and ongoing management of the global data platform, data collection and integration, transformation, modelling, governance and visualisation. Other key responsibilities will include:
* Collaborating and liaising with a wide variety of internal and external business, data and technology stakeholders.
* Utilise Azure data architecture knowledge to design and implement scalable data solutions to meet business requirements.
* Design and optimize data storage and retrieval systems, leveraging Azure data services such as Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure SQL Database, and other Azure DB services.
* Create, design, and develop data models including data transformation.
* Develop, maintain, and monitor data pipelines for automated data collection and integration from various sources. Interact with API systems to query and retrieve data for analysis.
* Ensure data quality, integrity, and security across all stages of data processing, implementing appropriate data validation, encryption, and access controls.
* Adhere to data governance, privacy and security standards, helping to build best practices where they do not exist.
What do I need to be successful in this role?
* Hands-on experience with Azure and Databricks architecture and tools such as Azure Data Factory, Databricks, SQL, Data Lake, Power BI, Delta Lake, Spark.
* Data engineering and data modelling experience, bringing together multiple data sources and tables to create data models.
* Proficiency in developing reports and custom queries using T-SQL.
* Experience working with Azure SQL databases.
* Solid understanding of data normalization techniques and database concepts.
* Ability to proactively research solutions and apply pragmatic best practices.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills to effectively work with cross-functional teams.
* Experience of analysing and diagnosing complex data issues and then explain key findings in clear business language.
* Experience of ETL development to read data and apply data profiling and data validation techniques.
* Deep experience with Azure DevOps (Repos, CI/CD etc.).
