About the Role
We are seeking a Head of Service – Highways Transportation and Greenspaces who will lead and manage a varied and interesting portfolio throughout the borough affecting the whole population every day. From the strategic development to the operational maintenance of our Highway network, parking services and transportation projects this role will work with our partners to make Trafford’s roads safer and more inclusive for all residents of the borough. This role will also take a leading role in making our many and varied greenspaces accessible to all, utilizing varied opportunities from leisure to media and filming.
This role will be responsible for some of the most interesting and exciting projects helping to shape Trafford’s transport and environment. Working with external partners such as TfGM, Developers, DfT and GMCA to ensure delivery of highway and transportation projects within Trafford to be fit for the future .
You will be an experienced professional in the field of highways and transportation. You will need to bring a clear understanding of these issues and the wider transport environment to the role as well as a strong ability to deliver diverse transportation and greenspace capital projects for the council to deliver real change for the travelling public.
Excellent experience of contract management is required and the demonstrable skills of commercial and financial acumen within it; negotiation, capturing savings and identifying cost-effective approaches and collaborative solutions. This role will involve working collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders and you will need to be politically astute, an effective and personable communicator, with an ability to present verbal and written information in a concise and effective manner. Knowledge of Legal and Legislative requirements, relevant policies, strategies, latest developments, market trends and alternative service delivery models is required.
You should hold a degree in a relevant discipline, with further relevant qualifications or memberships of related institutions being an advantage. You should possess several years’ experience in the field of Highways operations and capital delivery / Transportation and greenspace delivery, within or working with local government.
