Job summary
The Diabetes Home Care team based at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital is seeking an experienced Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse to work alongside the existing nursing and MDT. We are currently one of the largest Paediatric Diabetes units in the UK and deliver care to over 350 children. The nursing team provides 24 hour a day contact for families in the daily shift system incorporating the weekend and outpatient on-call rotas.
The role will encompass the co-ordination of the Diabetes nursing team and provision of an expert level of nursing practice in paediatric diabetes, using advanced skills, to shape and develop a high quality paediatric diabetes service across the trust, and nationally.
In addition the role will lead the delivery of the Management of Diabetes Course (MCDC) and support the MDT and other stakeholders in facilitating the Level 6 education program.
You should be able to work autonomously, be enthusiastic and self- motivated, with a demonstrated interest in expert diabetes care. You should have teaching experience and feel comfortable in using these skills to meet the needs of children and families, other professionals. You will be expected to embrace change and be dedicated to advancing diabetes care through innovative practice, leadership and education.

Main duties of the job
* Provide an expert level of nursing practice for Paediatric diabetes, using advanced skills, to shape and develop high quality Paediatric diabetes service across the trust.
* Design, develop and co-ordinate all aspects of the Management of Diabetes Course (MCDC) in collaboration with Birmingham City University and the diabetes MDT.
* Support the co-ordination of the Diabetes Nursing team, including nursing staff management and planning for service delivery.
* Promote excellence in nursing practice through the delivery of advanced nursing care to children and their families.
* Participate as part of the MDT in facilitating educational programmes for other Trust wide professionals.
