Role Overview:
The Head of Trading and Risk role at Direct Business Solutions is a pivotal position responsible for leading the development and execution of trading strategies and risk management solutions for corporate clients within the energy sector.
The successful candidate will drive the creation of a market-leading risk management and trade execution function, ensuring adherence with all agreed strategies.
Key responsibilities include developing trading strategies, managing trade position reporting, implementing efficient processes and systems, structuring flexible contracts with energy suppliers, and providing client-facing market analysis and reporting.
Additionally, the role involves supporting sales efforts, managing client portfolios, management reporting, and building a team of trading, pricing analysts, and risk management professionals.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in energy trading, risk managed product delivery, and a deep understanding of non-commodity costs, along with exceptional leadership, communication, and commercial acumen. This position offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of energy trading and risk management within a dynamic and innovative consultancy.
Key Responsibilities:
· Develop a comprehensive strategy, structure, and design for a market-leading risk management and trade execution function.
· Establish efficient processes and select and build appropriate software platforms to support the scalability of the trading function.
· Design and implement basket strategies and structure flexible contracts with energy suppliers to optimise client outcomes.
· Create client-facing market analysis and reporting mechanisms to provide valuable insights and facilitate informed decision-making.
· Own all trading activity, ensuring optimal outcomes for clients.
· Collaborate with the sales team to ensure our risk managed products are presented in a compelling and compliant format.
· Provide support in complex contractual negotiations between clients and energy suppliers, leveraging expertise in hedging strategies.
· Recruit, coach, and manage a high-performing team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Skills:
· Possess 3+ years of experience in a hedging, trading, or risk role within a commodity trading house, an energy supplier, a Third-Party Intermediary (TPI), or a Buying Group.
· Demonstrate the ability to influence and lead cross-business stakeholders, driving alignment and collaboration.
· Exhibit polished presentation skills, effectively communicating complex concepts to diverse audiences.
· Display exceptional commercial acumen, with a keen understanding of market dynamics and client needs.
· Focus on operational excellence, implementing processes and systems to streamline operations and enhance efficiency.
· Embody a strong, clear leadership style or show potential for leadership development.
· Ability to operate independently in a fast-changing business.
