My client is a leading innovator in the development of sustainable and eco-friendly materials for various industries. They specialise in harnessing the potential of chitosan-based formulations to create high-value alternative commercial products that meet the evolving needs of their customers.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
* Develop chitosan-based formulations for high-value alternative commercial products.
* Provide guidance on ongoing up-scale development to the commercial manufacturing team.
* Utilize analytical testing to enhance our understanding of chitosan products and chitinous derivatives, including parameters such as degree of deacetylation, molecular weight, and apparent viscosity.
* Collaborate with customers to determine their product specification needs.
* Generate work plans, design experiments, and report progress effectively.
* Uphold working practices to ensure the safety of colleagues and maintain the company's safety codes of conduct.
* Adhere to good laboratory practices, ensure proper lab housekeeping, and assist in maintaining stock inventory.
Knowledge, Experience, and Skills Required:
* A degree in polymer materials science or chemistry, preferably with experience in biopolymers such as chitin and chitosan.
* Minimum of 4 years' experience in developing commercially viable products within the food, cosmetics, medical devices, or pharmaceutical sectors.
* Proficiency in analytical techniques such as NMR, GPC, FTIR, LCMS, and Ash analysis, along with expertise in data interpretation.
* Experience in work plan generation, experimental design, and clear, concise reporting of data both verbally and in writing.
* Familiarity with creating and following SOPs, COSHH, and Risk Assessment documentation.
* Strong team player with a natural preference for working in fast-paced, challenging environments while prioritizing safety.
