An exciting opportunity has become available in the Breast Imaging department for a radiographer with a desire to specialize in mammography to join our team. This post is for a training position (band 5 progressing to band 6 upon qualification).
Our friendly and progressive Norwich Breast Unit has a lot to offer an enthusiastic Mammographer. We aim to always be at the forefront of developments.
Mammography posts have a gendered protected character, due to the nature of the work. This is an occupational requirement and therefore only female applicants should apply.
Main duties of the job
As post holder you will provide a professional, high quality mammographic imaging service. You will be working in both the symptomatic service and NHS Breast Screening Programme, producing mammograms of the highest standard. You will practice for the majority of the time, unsupervised and often supervising Assistant practitioners, trainee Mammographers and trainee Mammography Associates.
Although full or part time posts are available full working days are a requirement.

Job responsibilities

* To work unsupervised and, when required, in a supervisory capacity with an Assistant Practitioner in either a mobile or static screening clinic. Responsible for the smooth running of the clinic, keeping within tight time restraints for the imaging of each woman.
* To document clinical observations and use own judgement to clinically recall women to assessment.
* To recognise abnormalities on Mammography and seek advice from Radiologist regarding further imaging when appropriate.
* Daily communication with women who need reassurance due to anxiety about the screening process, recall or their condition, necessary to obtain their confidence, consent, and co-operation to acquire diagnostic images.
* To image both fresh and formalin fixed breast specimens as and when required, taking care to note orientation, to assist the Radiologist with the report.
* To take delegated responsibility for legislation pertaining to Health & Safety, Ionising Radiation Regulations and procedures for ceasing screening when equipment fails to perform to quality and safety standards, or woman withdraws consent.
* To be based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, but to travel to the screening units as and when required. A full clean driving licence is required. Any points, fines or convictions must be notified to the Superintendent Radiographer immediately.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
* Diploma/Degree of College of Radiographers
* PG Certificate in Mammography accredited by The Society and College of Radiographers.
* Health Profession Council registered.
* Full clean UK driving licence.
