Job Description:
Majority home working opportunity with a South Wales based client that have a 12 month initial contract position that may be of interest working on national security measures - with E-Fuse (further details on request).
The client are looking for an engineer with electrical or Electronic backgrounds and some Mechanical experience to work on small complex electrical systems. You will need to be able to produce Technical reports documentation. Product Experience and Full Cycle development is useful and you will be supporting the client in implementing new manufacturing techniques and processes. FMEA and overseeing the life cycle of mechanical and electronics processes into this stage are required.
The client are looking at 2 days work per week onsite in South Wales is required with the remainder for home working being fine (more onsite work will be required initially to get up to speed with the development). An SC Eligibility is required and the client can put you through this process to enable you to obtain the clearance. The client have interview availability next week to interview and are offering a high pay as an hourly rate (this equates to over £71k per year with more available through overtime). As a Product Development Engineer, you will be responsible for technical aspects of your respective programmes. Projects will cover all phases of a product’s lifecycle: concepts, development, testing, qualification, production and in service support. You will work with a team of engineers to deliver a variety of project goals, depending on project size and complexity. This diverse role will provide you with the opportunity to engage with many different engineering disciplines, as well as gaining a wealth of experience in this area. There will also be opportunities to engage with many other functions within the business on a wide range of projects. The position will be based primarily at Glascoed.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assisting product development and systems engineering activities for new products
2. Coordination of product development and related engineering activities
3. Configuration and maintenance of Engineering bills of materials for products
4. Product development and evaluation e.g. Pugh Matrices, Fault Tree Analysis, Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
5. Manufacture, test and evaluation of munitions products
6. Conducting and managing trials in a safe and suitable manner - from the trials planning stage to completion of the trial and presentation of the data
7. Development and use safe systems of work
8. Development of quality systems
9. Management of stakeholders, both internal and external, to ensure that development activities are completed to time and schedule
10. Contribution to the Life Cycle Management Process where required
11. Contribution to the Risk Management process
12. Liaise with customers as demanded
13. Working as part of an integrated project team, with regular engagement across other functions; including project management, procurement (supply chain) and commercial
Competencies, Skills and Qualifications:
Essential
* Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar Engineering discipline)
* Available for immediate start
* Applicants must be able to demonstrate a proven capability in development projects, in particular system integration
* Proven ability to take ownership, prioritise and deliver product Engineering tasks within development projects to ensure completion within agreed timescales and to required standard
* Ability to produce high quality technical reports
* A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and strong IT skills
* A good understanding of project/risk management and the ability to use associated tools and techniques
* Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and models
Desirable
* Master’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Electronic Engineering with proof of experience in developing complex electro-mechanical systems
* Minimum 5 Years product development experience in the Engineering industry
* Chartered Engineer or Membership with appropriate Engineering Institution
* Knowledge and experience of munition design and manufacture
* Experience of product test and evaluation activities
* Familiarity with the Life Cycle Management (LCM) process
* A working knowledge of Systems Engineering and Engineering design
* Working knowledge of Risk Management
* Awareness of relevant manufacturing technologies and processes
