We are modernising our services through cloud adoption, reduction of technical debt, and the implementation of a product operating model, still novel in higher education but increasingly vital to public sector innovation. Our approach combines agile delivery with operational excellence, ensuring services are both resilient and user focused. From AI and automation to endpoint management and cyber security, the Directorate is focused on creating future-ready services that support academic and professional excellence.The RoleYou will lead the design, implementation, and optimisation of hybrid cloud and on-premises platform infrastructure. They will ensure platform resilience, scalability, and IT security while mentoring other team members. The role will oversee delivery of key infrastructure projects, acting as a technical escalation point and ensuring successful delivery as well as the oversight of infrastructure monitoring, backup and disaster recovery.Key responsibilities: Design, development and administration of scalable and resilient hybrid cloud platforms integrating legacy systems with cloud infrastructure that support the operation of modern applicationsDelivery of key infrastructure projects, private cloud integration, high performance compute configurations and a full infrastructure refresh investment in our on-premises element of our hybrid cloud configuration This role is on a fixed term contract until end of July 2026.The Ideal CandidateEssential skills and experience:Extensive experience in managing and maintaining complex IT platforms, pipelines, and infrastructure. Key technologies are, servers (Windows/Linux), Virtualization (VMware) storage (NetApp) and IT security across a large-scale, business-critical environment.Advanced technical experience of cloud platforms and hybrid cloud infrastructure, including deployment, management, and integration with on premise systems.
