The stroke unit SGH is a 21-bedded specialist ward committed to providing high quality care to patients following an acute stroke. Our team is dedicated to delivering timely and effective stroke thrombolysis and thrombectomy referrals, stroke management and rehabilitation, ensuring optimal recovery and best possible patient outcomes. We are working closely with a wide range of multidisciplinary teams including, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Team, Nutrition and Deititics, Diabetes and Infection Control. This collaborative approach supports comprehensive and care throughout the stroke pathway.
Main duties of the job
The stroke responder will play a key role in the early identification and assessment of acute stroke, ensuring rapid thrombolysis, stroke review and timely coordination of care from admission, to step-down or discharge. The responder nurse will also liaise with stroke consultants, bed managers, shift leads and external hospitals to facilitate timely transfers and appropriate bed management. As a band 6 role, the stroke responder is also expected to support ward-based audits, MDT meetings, SSNAP data requirements, and any ongoing quality improvement initiatives.
